Galois module structure of Galois cohomology for embeddable cyclic extensions of degree p^n

Let p>2 be prime, and let n,m be positive integers. For cyclic field extensions E/F of degree p^n that contain a primitive pth root of unity, we show that the associated F_p[Gal(E/F)]-modules H^m(G_E,mu_p) have a sparse decomposition. When E/F is additionally a subextension of a cyclic, degree p^{n+1} extension E'/F, we give a more refined F_p[Gal(E/F)]-decomposition of H^m(G_E,mu_p)

ARE MEN CHEAPER THAN WOMEN? INSIGHTS FROM WALKING ECONOMY Nicole S. Schultz and Peter G. Weyand Southern Methodist University, Locomotor Performance Laboratory, Department of Applied Physiology and Wellness, Dallas, TX 75205 Introduction: The metabolic energy cost of human walking has been extensively studied. However, whether men and women require the same amount of energy (per kg of body mass) to walk at the same speed or cover the same distance remains unresolved. While most predictive algorithms incorporate only body mass and walking speed, we have recently found that mass-specific walking metabolic rates are inversely related to stature. Objective: We tested the specific hypothesis that walking economy does not differ between males and females when stature is controlled. We evaluated our hypothesis by comparing stature-matched adult males vs. females in each of three categories: short, medium and tall, at their respective most economical walking speeds. We predicted that minimum transport costs (COTmin, ml O2·kg-1·m-1) would not vary between gender groups of each stature. Methods: 30 subjects (15 male, 15 female) walked on a level treadmill at speeds ranging from 0.4 m·s-1 to 1.9 m·s-1. Indirect calorimetry was used to measure rates of oxygen uptake under steady-state conditions (Parvo Medics TrueOne 2400, Sandy, UT). Analysis: Minimum net transport cost, or net transport cost at the most economical walking speed, was determined for each subject by: 1) subtracting resting rates of oxygen uptake from the gross rates measured (VO2net, ml O2·kg-1·min-1), and 2) dividing VO2net by walking speed to identify the minimum COT. Unpaired t-tests were used to compare males and females within each stature group. Results: Transport costs were essentially identical for male and female groups of all three statures: short, medium and tall, and were inversely related to stature as expected. Conclusion: We conclude that men and women are equally cheap and gender does not influence walking energy expenditure. The mass-specific energy cost of transport does not differ in males and females of the same stature

Marginalized Philosophy: Rocky Horror Picture Show and the Unseen Influence

Rocky Horror Picture Show is often examined for commentary upon fluidity and conditioning of gender, but when placed in the twenty-first century society, the meaning and message is distorted. Rather than a commentary on gender alone, I intend to examine and prove how the Rocky Horror Picture Show is a commentary upon 1970s society, man in relation to the various meanings of nature, boundaries, liminality, and in communion with literary themes, philosophical issues concerning sin, and human nature dating back to ancient society

Reading Calvino in the garden and speaking Italian in the courtyard: the making of Italian Americans in two Italian American novels, with help from Italy and Italo Calvino's Fiabe italiane

As Italian American writers, Anna Monardo and Tony Ardizzone explore the connection between language and the hybrid identity of Italian Americans. Ardizzone's chosen mode of narration is the folktale. He both uses old ones and creates his own, telling them in such a way that one sees the language and cultural heritage of the immigrants. In Italy, these folktales can be found in Italo Calvino's Fiabe Italiane. By reading Calvino, one can see how Ardizzone has mined and used the oral traditions of his ancestors. Monardo uses the acquisition of the Italian language of her protagonist as a widening of social space in a Bildungsroman novel that takes place two generations after the large immigration wave. This examination of the Italian language looks at its relation to Italy, to America, and to the confluence of the two in social, historical, and political contexts

Fish Assemblage Structure in Black Hills, South Dakota Streams

Understanding factors structuring fish assemblages in a particular area is valuable to both sport fishery management and native species conservation. Fish assemblages in the Black Hills are unique to South Dakota because they contain economically valuable introduced salmonids as well as native species of conservation need. Our objective was to examine the relationship between fish assemblages and geomorphic and reach-scale habitat features across multiple stream reaches in the Black Hills. Canonical correspondence analysis, a direct gradient ordination analysis, indicated that factors operating at multiple spatial scales interacted to structure fish assemblages. There also was indication of segregation between native species and introduced salmonids. Fish assemblages were primarily structured by variables related to longitudinal stream gradients, followed by reach-scale habitat factors and biotic interactions. Habitat associations of fishes from this study provide insight into their ecology and can aid effective fisheries management in the Black Hills

In light of the big changes happening in the reality of labor in Brazil and in the world, new ways of working become necessary and widespread in the market. The Employment Law in Brazil seeks to adapt to these changes, and this is the reason why the Lei 13.467/2017 has introduced the “contrato intermitente”, which formalizes a labor that up until that point was outside the law. However, it did it by making questionable choices, according to law operators and scholars. So, understanding the positive and negatives aspects of this contract, on the eyes of the comparative law and experiences already lives in other countries is essential to comprehend if the “contrato intermitente” represents labor insecurity or if, on the other hand, it brings opportunity for the future of the labor market. In this context, this course conclusion work aims to show the characteristics of the zero hour contract, inserted in the context of English employment law, identifying the positive and negative aspects of this kind of employment contract. More specifically, the objective is to compare this legal institute with the Brazilian “contrato intermitente”. To analyze the subject, the methods used were the functional, factual and context comparison, associated with bibliography and statistical research. The importance of the study is on the fact that the zero hour contract was one of the main influences of the “contrato intermitente”, and it exhibits important similarities with this Brazilian legal institute, placed here by the 2017 Labor Reform. At the end, this research reaches its objective of allowing a better understanding of the difficulties, definitely existent, and also the possible solutions that, if implemented, can make the Brazilian “contrato intermitente” an opportunity to the labor market, including for those who today are the most harmed: the workers
